Pneumonia is a respiratory disorder caused due to infection in the lungs. Any individual with a weaker immune system can develop pneumonia. Especially, small children and elderly people are more susceptible to this disease. The infection can be caused due to microorganisms such as bacteria, virus etc. Smoke, dust and chemicals, which are inhaled from the atmosphere also causes pneumonia. When the lungs are infected, liquid secretion will be observed in the lungs. The pneumonia can be of several types like bacterial pneumonia, viral pneumonia, chemical pneumonia etc. The patient diagnosed with pneumonia will suffer from severe cough, yellowish or greenish mucous discharge, blood in mucous, chest pain, fever etc. It is advisable to cough as much as you can and bring out the mucous from the lungs. The tests that are needed for the diagnosis of pneumonia are blood test to check the white blood cells count responsible for resistance against harmful pathogens, X-ray etc. Pneumonia can be controlled by, controlling the factors responsible for causing this disease. Smoking is strictly prohibited, as it may lead to further inflammation and infection of the lungs. Anti bacterial and anti viral drugs are available in the market, which should be taken after consulting a doctor along with medication for fever. Pneumonia vaccination can also be given as a preventive measure to people with a weak immune system particularly to aged people and infants. It is recommended to take immediate treatment as it can lead to blood poisoning if not treated. Thus, this respiratory ailment can be treated depending on its type.

Thyroid is a gland, which is situated in the neck. This gland is responsible for secreting a hormone that plays a major role in controlling the growth, release of energy and metabolic activities of the body. Two other glands in the brain namely, pituitary gland and hypothalamus will control the level of hormone and there by stimulates the thyroid gland to secrete the required level of T4 and T5 hormone. There are two types of thyroid conditions namely hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. When the thyroid glands secrete excess level of hormone then the condition is called hyperthyroidism whereas, when the thyroid glands secrete hormone below the required level then this condition is called hypothyroidism. The symptoms observed will be different in both the conditions. A patient having hyperthyroidism will have irregular menstrual cycle, metabolism rate will increase and hence the patient will have increased appetite yet looses weight to some extent. The patient also suffers from pain in the joints, will be prone to fatigue easily and will not be able to concentrate properly. A person having hypothyroidism will also be prone to fatigue easily. Hair loss and increase in weight will be observed greatly. A women having hypothyroidism is at great risk during pregnancy and might have difficulty in becoming pregnant soon. If both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism are left untreated at an early stage, it can cause severe heart and brain disorders which might be life threatening. So it is necessary to consult a physician when the above symptoms are observed in an individual and take necessary treatments in the initial stage itself.

One of the most common respiratory disorder, which occurs in people all over the world is asthma. Asthma attacks are seen in people of all age groups, right from small children to aged individuals. There is no permanent cure or recovery from asthma but it can be controlled to a great extent by taking proper precautions and by adopting a healthy lifestyle. The main factors, which are responsible for causing asthma are smoke, dust, pests, pollen grains, insects etc. Stress and medicines to some extent can also be a cause for this disorder. The air passage gets inflamed thus affecting the normal breathing mechanism. The patient, will find it difficult to breathe, especially during night and early mornings and the sleep cycle gets disturbed. Asthma patients can use an inhaler, which contains medicine in the form of vapor when they have difficulty in breathing. In the case of severe conditions, the patient should be immediately taken to a health care center for proper treatment and medication, as it may even lead to death. There are a variety of preventive measures for this disorder. The first and fore most is, patients suffering from asthma should be strictly prohibited from smoking. The living environment should be kept clean from dust, insects or pests, which cause asthma. Moreover, asthma can greatly controlled by practicing yoga regularly. The breathing exercise, will be of great use in reducing the difficulty in breathing. Since, asthma has no permanent cure, its up to you to adopt proper preventive measures and healthy lifestyle to prevent this disorder.

In recent years, the two popular crisis which posed a threat to the lives of millions of people across the world, are the SARS and the bird flu. Bird flu and SARS are found to be more prevalent in Asian countries. Both are caused due to the mutation of life threatening viruses in the respiratory passages. Theses viruses are capable of being transmitted from an infected person to a healthy person. In SARS, the virus spreads by human to human contact, that is, by shaking hands with an infected person. In the case of bird flu the virus spreads from infected bird to human. Bird flu viruses are capable of mutating into a harmful killer virus, which can spread by human to human contact also. But this mutated killer virus is very dangerous. There is no vaccine available for the permanent cure of this killer disease. Rather anti viral drugs are prescribed for the infected persons to enhance the resistance against these viruses. The spread of these life threatening viruses could be controlled by taking the appropriate control measures. It is advisable to avoid hand to hand contact with the infected person. When the virus in the hands, comes in contact with the eyes and mucous membranes of the nose it infects the healthy person. It is preferable to wash hands with normal soaps rather than anti bacterial soaps. After washing, the hands should be dried, as the virus spreads more rapidly from wet hands. By adopting the control measures the spread of these viruses can be controlled to some extent.

Malaria is a dangerous disease that has caused the death of many people across the world. Malaria is caused by, female anopheles mosquito. These mosquitoes will act as host or vector, which is responsible for transmitting the malaria causing parasites to the humans by biting them. Malaria is generally of two types namely complicated malaria and uncomplicated malaria. The symptoms of this disease will reveal itself after the incubation period of about 7 to 10 days. In some cases of malaria the symptoms will be observed only after a year. A person having this disease will suffer from fever, headache, body pain, vomiting, tiredness etc. In extreme cases it can cause kidney, lung diseases and even complications in pregnancy. Malaria can be diagnosed by taking blood test in the laboratory. The treatment for this disease differs based on the type of parasite that has caused the disease, sensitivity of the patient to various drugs, other disorders in the infected person. If a woman is infected with this disease during pregnancy, special care and medication should be taken under the guidance of a doctor. Self-medication under such condition is strictly prohibited, as it can affect the baby and increase the risk during delivery. Several anti malarial drugs are available in the market these days. Chloroquine and quinine are the most widely used and famous among all. If the symptoms of malaria are observed in an individual, it is necessary to consult a doctor as soon as possible without further delay. If malaria is not treated it can even lead to death.

Heart attack is the most prevalent condition seen worldwide. The cases of heart attack are rising on its peak due to changes in the lifestyle of people across the world. Heart attack can be hereditary. Smoking is one of the main reasons for heart attack. The heart walls will be devoid of oxygen supply due to smoking, thus increasing the chances of heart attack. An individual may get many attacks, if addiction to smoking is not quitted at the right time. Food containing high cholesterol content, like fatty and oily food stuffs should be avoided in the regular diet. The patient should take up periodic tests, to monitor the chances of further attacks in future. If conditions of blood pressure or diabetes are detected, then proper treatment and medication should be taken to control them as it may lead to heart attack. Stress in the minds of people, also contribute much to the occurrence of heart attacks. Increased work pressure and modern lifestyle are the main reasons for stress. Yoga and daily exercise will be of great help to relieve the minds from stress and keep you tension free. Obesity also adds on to the causes of heart attack. Various weight reduction techniques are available these days. But having a balanced diet and regular exercise, are the effective of all. A person having heart attack suffers from discomfort during breathing, pain in chest that spreads to the shoulder and arms. If the symptoms are noticed and if proper treatment is taken under the guidance of a cardiologist, further chances of attacks can be greatly reduced.

Brain is the most amazing organ of our body. Brain is responsible for controlling various activities in our body like blood circulation, breathing etc. It is the center, which controls our thought process and imaginations. Brain tumor is a risky condition of the brain, where abnormal cells grow and spread in to the surrounding tissues of the brain causing damage to them. The severity of the tumor depends on its type. Basically, brain tumor is classified into two types, as primary and secondary. Primary tumor is one in which the abnormal cell growth is seen in areas close to the brain. In secondary tumor, the cancer that has originated in other parts of the body, will spread and finally affects the brain causing tumor. The later is more dangerous than primary because, the cancerous cells have the tendency to invade and damage the surrounding areas of the brain also. Secondary tumors are more likely to occur than primary. Symptoms of tumor include persistent headache with vomiting, vision problems, hearing problems, memory imbalance and fits. The tumor can be treated easily and there are greater possibilities of recovery if the presence of tumor is detected at an early stage. Hence, if there are any indications of the above symptoms it is advisable to visit a proper physician. With advancements in technology, various treatments are available that includes surgery and radiation therapy. In most cases, surgery is often performed in combination with other treatments. Brain tumor can be dangerous to our life if it is not treated properly. Hence individuals should take care in visiting a proper physician and undergo the necessary treatments for removing the tumor.
