There is a kind of mole called dysplastic nevi whose size will be larger, having brown or reddish colored center. These moles can be hereditary and have the capacity of causing skin cancer called melanoma. When the presence of these moles causes itching, bleeding or any other form of irritation to the skin it is advisable to test for skin cancer by biopsy. Exposure to sunlight for a longer period can cause changes in the nature of moles ultimately leading to skin cancer. If the test reveals the presence of skin cancer then these dangerous moles should be immediately removed by surgery. Surgery is usually very painful and hence the patient is given anesthesia.
